Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway: A Pep Talk

We all start at zero.

Whether it’s a new career, a new skill, or writing your book’s very first draft.⁣⁣

Trying to get back into social media, I feel like the awkward girl at the party, crashing other people’s conversations. To say I’m feeling uncomfortable is quite an understatement.⁣⁣

2022 Write Your First Draft Workbook

And it was exactly the same when I wrote my first draft, as I sat there staring at that blank page.⁣⁣

Being uncomfortable is how we grow, and the way to get out of that discomfort is to take action, with the fear of not being good enough in the passenger seat.⁣⁣ Like the late Susan Jeffers said in one of the first personal development books I’ve ever read: “Feel the fear and do it anyway.”

We might fail, but we might also succeed and wildly exceed our expectations. You’ll never know until you try, right?

The good thing with writing is that no one but you needs to see your first draft. No need to fret over the first sentences, because chances are they won’t even be in your final draft.⁣⁣ Take the first awkward step and write for 5 minutes or write only 50 words, a tiny baby step.⁣⁣

No matter what it is you’re trying to accomplish, tiny baby steps when taken daily lead you to your goal much quicker than waiting for the moment you feel ready or inspired, which in most cases is never.⁣⁣

What is something you want to do but feel resistance to getting started?⁣

Let me know if you need an extra dose of encouragement or accountability.
